Hall of Fame Winning Healthcare Project: Synergy Behavioral Wellness Center

Concept

Synergy Behavioral Wellness Center invites individuals in the Iraqi community of Chicago, Illinois to renew their mind, body, and spirit. This behavioral wellness center fosters the wellbeing of multiple groups within the Iraqi community including the Assyrians, the Kurds, and the Turkomans. The emotional stability of each member is largely considered in the design, as most of them are refugees from the Iraq War. Each corner of the facility is thoughtfully crafted to nurture the mind, body, and spirit, hence the name “Synergy” to unite and strengthen each pillar of life in every individual. From calming therapy offices to reinvigorating group rooms, every element of the design empowers patients to take the first step toward experiencing a better life, cultivating healthy habits, building resilience, and thriving. The renderings below are comprised of eight key spaces within the facility: Reception, Waiting Area, Wayfinding between the Reception and Waiting Area, Employee Lounge, Group Room, Teen Activity Room, Therapy Office, and Exam Room.
